This Blog is, quite simply, a space to write, think, explore and, mostly, ramble. The direction may change from the original intention – which is simply to encourage me to write more – but for now I can only be vague because I really don’t know where writing more will lead. I may find I always want to write around a certain theme, but it’s more likely that this will be an incoherent mix of my thoughts, things I have found that interest me, bits of creative writing and perhaps even some poetry if I’m feeling brave enough to share my half-formed verse.
I found it simultaneously pleasing and disappointing that my blog isn’t the only one called Jam and Idleness (which is why I added the 2014 to the web address). It’s a quote from George Eliot’s The Mill on the Floss that so perfectly describes a moment of idle joy and I’ve always loved it. What better name for a blog without real direction? I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks so, but I was peeved when, after being so pleased with myself for coming up with the perfect title, I found it had been taken. You can find the blog that beat me to it, here, if you are as curious as I was!
You can read an ebook version of The Mill on the Floss for free here, but if you are not sure whether you want to, you can read reviews here (but proceed with caution as some reviews give away a bit too much of the plot).
